Written history in China is as old as 2,500 years. During these many years the history of humans started to change. They started to develop more forms of philosophy and art. Poetry is a type of art form but just written and it was extremely important in Chinese history.
Li Bai is one of China's most cherished poets. He lived more than 2,000 years ago, yet his poetry still lives on. Taoism, was a big influence of Li Bai. Taoism highlights the link between nature and humans and it aligns the human character with nature. Since he was influenced by Taoism, most of his poetry depicts human and nature interaction. Li Bai used many various forms of poetry, but one he frequently used was the Jue Ju form. Jue Ju poetry consists of only four lines. But each line has the exact same number of syllables, usually Chinese poets use five, but occasionally seven. When Jue Ju form poems are translated to English the number of syllables change and they lose the depth and their strict format. Jue Ju poetry creates a mood, and usually does not tell story. |
