On this page you can read some of Li Bai's poems which we have analyzed in our own views.
In the poem, "Hearing a Flute on a Spring Night in Luoyang," Li Bai discusses how he feels when he hears the beautiful flute playing during his stay in Luoyang City. He uses a lot of imagery details throughout the poem. He also uses other sensory details. In lines 1-2, Li Bai talks about the beautiful sound coming from a jade flute, which is somewhere in Luoyang. He doesn't know where it is coming from, because the the sounds travels with the wind. In lines 3-4, Li Bai hears the flute at night, and thinks of a willow tree near his house, wondering who wouldn't think of their home, listening to music like that. After reading the whole poem, I believe Li Bai is talking about how the simplest of things can easily remind of anything, in this case, a home.
In the poem, "Staying the Night at a Mountain Temple", Li Bai talks about sleeping over atop a mountain. He uses a lot of adjectives (imagery and other sensory details) in his poems. In lines 1-2, he discusses how high the mountain is. He says, in line 2, "From here one's hand could pluck the stars." He marvels at how close to the sky the mountain's peak is. In lines 3-4, Li Bai talks about how close to heaven he is on the mountaintop. Since he is that high up, he tries not to talk in a loud voice, because he is afraid of waking the gods. He fears their wrath if he interrupts their slumber. After reading this poem, I can gather that Li Bai is a god-fearing person.
In the poem Autumn Air, Li Bai expresses the beautiful season of Autumn by showing imagery and sensory details as shown in lines 1-4. Li Bai writes about the autumn air and autumn moon and how both are clear and bright. He also talks about the fallen leaves that Autumn brings and when the Jackdaw bird perches and starts a "new life". In the last two lines of the poem someone is explaining their relationship and how everything in their life is crystal clear except her relationship with her lover and in the last line of the poem when Li Bai write "my feelings are hard" that indicates that she is not sure of her feelings toward that person and doesn't know what to think of that person. But throughout the whole poem I can indicate that Li Bai's intention was to write about the beautiful season of Autumn and the confusing love between two lovers.
In the poem Midnight Song of Wu, Li Bai writes about a lady who is talking about her time waiting for her husband to come back from war. In the first three lines of the poem the woman seems to be explaining Chang'an city and her daily dose of what she experiences everyday while waiting for her husband. In the last three lines of the poem it indicates that a lady lady seems to be stuck in a fortress waiting for her husband to return from Yuguan (Chinese Fort) where he is fighting The Hu which is a barbarian tribe who periodically attacked China's north-west frontier during the Tang dynasty. Throughout this whole poem I can pick up that Li Bai wrote about Autumn and the painful aspect of separation.
In the poem "Thoughts on a Still Night" the lonely and wandering poet is about to go to sleep as he stares into the shining moon. Then he states he is sleeping outside with frost on the ground, indicating it must be cold outside and it creates a depressing mood. He is unsure of where he is going, but he seems to have a connection with the moon. As he stares at the beautiful, big moon from time to time and then he remembers his home as he looks down, he misses home. Yet he was able to see and value the beauty of the moon who's bright glare reflects off the frost on the ground. His heart and life are two different things, he appreciates nature although he might be missing home and is clueless about where to go next.
